Jim Howle Nose Putty: Clown Supplies

Sale Price : $10.00

Jim Howle Nose Putty (22 gms)

Price : $10.00

Is your clown nose too big to fit your own nose? No problem! Jim Howle's Putty is the perfect solution. Container holds a ping-pong ball sized glob (22 grams), which should last you a long, long time.

For best results, first wipe your nose, clown nose, and hands with alcohol on a paper towel to take off all the makeup, oil, and dirt, sweat. Pull off a little bit of the putty and knead it until it sticks annoyingly to your fingers. Hold the nose upside down and fill the top (the part that is closest to the bridge of your nose) and work it half-way down the sides. Try it on and keep packing more until you have the fit you want. Try NOT to put any Putty in the very front or bottom -- this will shift the weight in the nose and may make it fall off.

Customizing Your Jim Howle Clown Noses

Customizing Your Jim Howle Clown Noses:

Jim Howle noses are distinctive. Named for America's premier clown portrait artist (and a frequent Clown Camp instructor), Jim Howle noses are made of acrylic-coated latex and come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, including traditional red and hobo (flesh-tone), many of which which we carry in stock.

Most of the Jim Howle Noses available on Clown Antics are what Jim calls red gloss. This is a standard craft color found in many craft stores that Jim uses as the basis for the color in building of the nose because it creates a good durable exterior finish that can be redone by the customer if desired. It has a good sheen but doesn't have an extremely glossy shine unless repainted.

The natural color noses (flesh) are a softer compound and a more satin surface that can easily be matched to the your grease paint flesh base just by applying your makeup to it - rubbed in and blended to suit. You can even make them red with the grease paint, making a nice matte red effect that blends with the face rather rather than overstating the importance of the nose. Of course you have to powder the makeup on the nose just like the face to prevent offset.

Supplies for painting a clown noseTo repaint your gloss red Jim Howle nose for a super shiny finish, purchase a bottle of Apple Barrel Acrylic Craft Paint in Real Red Gloss (or your desired shade). You will also need rubbing alcohol, paper towels and something to set the nose on between coats - like a small bottle of Jim Howle nose glue, as shown.

First clean the nose with alcohol to prep the surface. Open the paint bottle and place the clown nose on two or three finger tips to hold it. With the index finger of the other hand, take a tiny dab of paint and rub a very thin coat onto the clown nose. This makes it nice and even. Allow it to dry for one hour between coats. Too much at a time makes for uneven applications. When the nose has reached the color level that suits you allow it to dry completely for 72 hours.

Enjoy your shiny new clown nose!

Clown Makeup: Best Makeup Online Shop

1.    Does the Mehron Blue Guy kit dry? I was told that what the group uses on stage doesn't actually dry.

The paint in the Blue Man is grease based paint.  It doesn't dry completely like face paint (which is water based), however you use setting powder to keep it in place to keep it from smearing.  It's stage make up, so it makes sense that you heard the the Blue Man Group uses it.

2.    I need a metallic silver so that I can do an Ace Frehley (lead guitarist of the rock band Kiss) face.

"The Mehron Grease Color Cup - Silver (0.5 oz) are a good one.  It is a grease based paint, so it's important to use with other grease based paint and then use a setting powder to set it when you are done.

There are also some face paint silvers that you can use. Face paint makeup is water based and is easily removed with soap and water.  It is less resistant to sweat however. The metallic silver face paints that would work are Mehron Paradise Face Paints - Metallic Silver Bullet, Kryolan Aquacolor Face Paint Refills - Metallic Silver and Kryolan Aquacolor Liquid - Metallic Silver."

3.    I am looking for some good makeup for Halloween. I have shaved my head and am going as the devil-- so I would like great red that will not crack..

"It depends on if you want to use grease based make up or face paint, which is water based. Grease make up will not crack at all, but it is usually used by professionals and requires that you use a setting powder once you have put it on.  It is easy to apply however, but will need a remover to take it off at the end of the night.

If this seems too laborious, a lot of people use face paint for costumes. There are a couple of brands that are known for not cracking when dry: TAG, Wolfe and Kryolan. TAG and Wolfe have little bit of wax in them so that they ""bend"" and Kryolan face paint has a little glycerin in it."

4.    Do your false eyelashes come with glue?

No, they don't, but we well two glues that work well with eyelashes:  Ardell Lash Adhesive (item  K1425) and Jim Howle "That" Restickable Adhesive (K14253)

5.    What's the difference between the ProFace No Sweat and the Barrier Cream?

The ProFace No Sweat is an anti-perspirant that you put on your face before you put on your make-up, it helps keep sweat from coming through your make-up. The ProFace Barrier Cream protects sensitive skin from staining by makeup pigments, latex and other adhesives, but it also works somewhat to protect the makeup from sweat. If you want something to help with smudging, using setting powders over grease make up is essential.

6.    If I paint my whole face white with the ProFace makeup will it dry enough for me to put other colors directly over top of it?

The ProFace White is a grease based paint.  It will not dry like face paint which is water based. You can draw over it with grease make up pencils in small areas, but for larger areas of color, it is best to leave the skin bare where the colors will go. See our Guide to Clown Makeup application for more details.
